Tiny Minds

It’s Fiesta Week in San Antonio! I have my first official Fiesta Hangover!

The Warden and I went downtown to meet some people, have some beers and listen to some music. The beer was good, but the music at the particular place we landed sucked. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, “They were the suckiest sucks that ever did suck.” So we left and drank more beer at a little icehouse that’s situated under I-35.

On the way home (about midnight) I stopped at a Jack in the Box for a late-night snack. Here’s the dialogue I had with a tiny, tiny mind on other end of the Official Jack in the Box remote Subsistence Procurement Telecommunications System:

Tm: Welcome to Jack in the Box. Can I help you?
Me: Yeah, I’ll have four tacos and a Jumbo Jack please.
Tm: That’s four tacos and a Jumbo Jack?
Me: Yes.
[He rings it up and I see on the display that the order is only $2.35 and is for two tacos and a Jumbo Jack, not four tacos.]
Me: Excuse me.
Tm: Yes.
Me: I wanted four tacos not two.
Tm: Four tacos or four orders? [they come 2 for $.99]
Me: Four tacos.
Tm: So then two orders?
Me: Whatever mathematical formula equals four tacos is what I want.
Tm: [somewhat meek – or homicidal] That’s two orders.

I didn’t taste the loogies in my food. I wondered about them, but didn’t let it bug me :-)

Memory Du Jour:
Belleplain State Forest, New Jersey, 1986
Saw a couple of little old ladies on the side of the road with a flat. I pulled over and changed their tire, not thinking much of it. Just seemed like the right thing to do. They were very nice and very appreciative. The kind you’d love to have for a granny. One of them handed me $40. I declined. They both insisted and wouldn’t say no. Not wanting to get my ass kicked, I reluctantly accepted. I felt guilty about taking their money, but very good about being able to help someone’s mom/granny the way I’d have wanted someone to help my family or friends.

Quote of the Day:
"I like my buddies from west Texas. I liked them when I was young, I liked them then I was middle-age, I liked them before I was president, and I like them during president, and I like them after president." —George W. Bush, Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 1, 2006

Fiesta sounds like fun. That taco experience sounds like it could have ended up like some kind of "who's on first" dialogue.

Hi Cj.
I was eating strawberry cream puffs while reading your post so I didn't hit the link for the loogies but I'm sure it was interesting lol. Jack's been selling 2 tacos for 99 cents for years now, but then you wouldn't know that because your actually fortunate enough to get to eat real food ; }
That was sweet of U to change the tire for the little old ladies, worth a lot of karma points, well done!

For some reason when reading your Bush quote I thought of Sam, I am describing how/when he likes Green Eggs and Ham.

WebMiz: That’s what I was thinking.

StringMan: Hmm..you’re right. A few more cervezas and it might’ve been!

Y: Mmmm...Cream puffs. I know about the two for one deal. Been like that for a long time. Hell, sometimes they have three or four for one here. I think the punk would’ve given me a hard time even if I’d asked for two orders. It was just the tone of voice.

Ivy: lol. Bush reminds me a lot of Dr. Seuss books. Listening to him talk reminds me of a six year old reading Dr. Seuss book. :-)

James: Shit, I had the same damned thing happen to me with a Moby Jack. I drove back and they accused me of trying to pull a fast one. I told them their sammiches weren't that fuckin' good. Maybe it was the bloodshot eyes that did it!

I remember the burritos...Mmmm...
