No Can Think

Has anyone else been having problems uploading pictures? I click on upload and it sits for like three minutes before it craps out and says the page cannot be displayed.

I haven’t had much time to post lately, which I suppose isn’t a bad thing since my imagination took a shit on me.

Now for some facts about Texas, courtesy of my two malfunctioning brain cells. I’ve deleted a couple of lame facts, hence some skipped numbers.

1. Beaumont to El Paso: 742 miles
2. Beaumont to Chicago: 770 miles
3. El Paso is closer to California than to Dallas
5. The Flagship Hotel in Galveston is the only hotel in North America built over water.
6. The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman who was the first full-time coach for Rice University in Houston.
7. Brazoria County has more species of birds than any other area in North America.
8. Aransas Wildlife Refuge is the winter home of North America's only remaining flock of whooping cranes.
10. The worst natural disaster in U.S. history was in 1900 caused by a hurricane in which over 8000 lives were lost on Galveston Island.
11. The first word spoken from the moon, July 20, 1969, was "Houston."
12. King Ranch in South Texas is larger than Rhode Island.
13. Tropical Storm Claudette brought a US rainfall record of 43" in 24 hours in and around Alvin in July 1979.
14. Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY, (known as Constitution of 1845 by Republic of Texas to enter the union) instead of by annexation. This allows the Texas flag to fly at the same height as the US flag, and may divide into 4 States.
15. A Live Oak tree near Fulton is estimated to be 1500 years old.
17. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. There is no period after Dr in Dr Pepper.
18. Texas has had six capital cities:
18.1. Washington-on-the-Brazos
18.2. Harrisburg
18.3. Galveston
18.4. Velasco
18.5. West Columbia
18.6. Austin
19. The Capitol Dome in Austin is the only dome in the U.S which is taller than the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. (by 7 feet).
20. The name Texas comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning friends. Tejas is not Spanish for Texas. 21. The State animal is the Armadillo. (An interesting bit of trivia about the armadillo is they always have four babies! They have one egg, which splits into four, and they either have four males or four females. Well, I thought it was interesting anyway!)
22. The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston.

Memory Du Jour:
Christmas Day, 1983, Key West
I was on a ship in the Coast Guard. We pulled in on Christmas morning. Those of us who were single and lived on the ship had no families to spend time with on this day. So we did what any red blooded American boys would do. We spent the day at The Esquire Lounge, then the only topless bar in town. We drank bloody marys until we were blind, and laughed about how pathetic we were; wondering what our mothers would think. Come to think of it, I never told my mom that story. She would’ve got a kick out of it!

Quote of the Day:
"I can look you in the eye and tell you I feel I've tried to solve the problem diplomatically to the max, and would have committed troops both in Afghanistan and Iraq knowing what I know today." —Irvine, Calif., April 24, 2006

Christmas day in a titty bar....how festive.

I tried to upload a photo multiple times yesterday and had the exact same problem.

Spending Christmas in a titty bar sounds like it would be most men's dream come true! Sure beats spending time with the in-laws!

Aw...that's so wholesome that you would drink bloody marys in honor of Jesus' mom.

BTW, glad you like my voice...could you drool a little bit more? I'm still mopping up saliva here on the east coast.

j/k sweetie

An extra 28 measly miles is all the difference there is between driving from Beaumont to El Paso and Beaumont to Chicago. We do live in a big state!

Jules: Festive indeed. I think one of the strippers was actually dressed up like an elf.

WebMiz: Okay cool. I’m glad it’s not just me being singled out and oppressed :-) All things considered, the titty bar was pretty fun. I’d rather have spent it with my familia, but hey, who would’ve spent Christmas with the titty dancers if it weren’t for the few pathetic patrons that day? :-)

Sudie: Wow. I never thought of the Boody Mary connection to Christmas. That would’ve been a really profound thing to talk about had I been sober enough to think of it back then!

Sheila It really is a big ol’ state. My uncle told me a story once about him and some businessmen who went to the east coast for a meeting years ago. They were all from “the big states,” (Tx, NM, CA, AZ, etc). They somehow booked a flight that landed in one of the NYC airports. They needed to go to Philadelphia. They looked at a map and, based on the scale of “the big states,” they determined it was too far to drive and booked a flight. Hilarious. It’s only about a quick hour and a half from NYC to Philly.
