Latvian Meatball Soup (Frikadelu Zupa)

My mom got this recipe from a Latvian friend years ago. There are a number of different ways to make it (as I found on the internet today) but this, I assure you, is absolutely delicious, no matter how simple or weird it may seem. Now, on to one of my all-time favorite comfort foods:

Ingredients
Small red potatoes - cubed
Onion - grated or very finely chopped
Ground beef (1lb in this example)
1 egg
Salt and pepper to taste
1 Tbsp Peppercorns
Chopped Claussen dill pickles
Sour cream

Make meatballs (1"-1.5")out of the ground beef, egg, grated onion, salt and pepper. Mix very well.

Cook potatoes on medium until they're about half way done. Add meatballs - gently so they don't fall apart.

Add peppercorns.
Cook, stirring gently, only after meatballs have set.
Add salt as necessary

Serve with a dollop of sour cream and a couple of tablespoons of chopped dill pickles.
