The Horror

Our house burned to the ground yesterday afternoon.  Nearly everything we owned was lost.  Two indoor cats are unaccounted for as is one outdoor cat.  I put out food and water for them last night, and made a little bed for them by a bush they like to hide under.  I hope they made it.  I love those cats so much.

All we own fit in my friend's Cherokee and in my trunk.  I bought some clothes and essentials last night.  The rest was destroyed.  I hope to find some little things today when some friends and I start sifting through debris.

Shelley was in Austin.  She's coming home today.

My God this is awful.

Carlos!

My God, I am so sorry to hear this. I don't have much but I do have a spare bedroom that you and Shelly can crash in if you need it. I am on the northside of San Antonio...if there is anything I can do to help, please shoot me a message at JokerSATX at the Gmail extension.

Thanks Joker. It's absolutely and horrifically unbelievable still. Fortunately, we have a roof over our heads. A coworker lives nearby and has a big house. I can't imagine doing this shit in a hotel.

We hope to have a rental in a day or two. Just waiting on the agent to call back. It's in a close by neighborhood which will be good when we start rebuilding. We expect to have them start clearing the slab in a little over a week. Then the fun begins.

Going to see my Dr.today. The stress and anxiety is more than I can bear, which is totally out of character for me, who is usually the rock in a crisis. But...I've never lost everything before.

Heartbreaking. Just fucking heartbreaking.

Happened upon your blog randomly, and was so sad to read your post. It's just unimaginable, especially losing your beloved pets on top of everything else. I am wondering if I can send you a care package... What would give you a little comfort? New sheets, some make up, a book, art supplies. I am serious, let me know the address and something that could give you a little comfort. Xoxo

Thanks for the kind words. Thanks for the offer Pam. We're doing fine in the essentials department.
