Three Word Wednesday
The rules, if you wanna call 'em that, are here.
Today's Words: Phone, Stumbled, Windy
Sugarloaf
Continuation of "Seven Mile Bridge"
Had she been standing, she would’ve stumbled to the phone. But it was morning, and she was still in bed. She rolled over and answered, “Hello” weakly. She could taste the previous night’s wine - A nice white, the name of which she couldn’t recall.
He was on the other end of countless miles of communications lines, microwave links, and satellite hops. It sounded windy to her.
“Hello Miss Brown.” He was at sea again. A long, whispery, babyish Hi was her response.
“I’m about ten miles northeast of Cabo Maisi, between Cuba and Haiti.” He spoke slowly, and loud enough to ensure she could hear and understand him. “We just passed through a squall line. The calm on the other end of it made me think of you so I thought I’d call.”
“I’m glad you did baby.”
As suddenly as he’d come into her morning he was gone. The line went dead. A massive solar flare was wreaking havoc on satellite (and other) communications. He reset the Inmarsat terminal and tried another call in vain. He hung up the receiver, walked to the stern of the big, offshore supply vessel, sat on the gunwale, and lit a cigarette.
She looked around the room. Sugarloaf Lodge was perfect. She looked at her watch and wondered how long he would be.

very nicely done...
Hope he didn't take too long.
The Wiking is impressive
Wow, entertainment and education at the same time!
Hey, that was neat, learnt quite a bit. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting and educating post!
He was on the other end of countless miles of communications lines, microwave links, and satellite hops.
It's sad to have someone be that far separated, but at least they do have each other. I'm a firm believer that if you want to make it work, you will. Even through all that.
Nice write and CLEVER links - I love to read technical stuff in literature - I'm a bit of a nerd I guess! That little cartoon on your site is very like the way I feel about our network here in the office - arghhhhhh
Thank you all for the kind words :-) I do appreciate them.
I hope to get back to doing this every Wednesday.
The calm on the other end of it made me think of you
Ooo, good line :) Nice story, Carlos. You painted a complete setting in few words.
I must have missed the first half of this story somehow but, I really enjoyed this one. The blending of education into your story is superb. Keep up the good work.

Miss Brown? At least we know the lady's last name. When will we know his? The story is getting better and better. Love how she finally realized it was not the caca-face that she needed to return to. Love is there somewhere. Just need to find it. One of these days...one of these days. Thanks for a good story, Carlos.
